Lescott blasts claims Man City players did not rate Dzeko

Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has rubbished reports last season that the players were unimpressed by Edin Dzeko in training.

Lescott killed off the notion that his fellow Blues had entertained doubts about him, once and for all, and even suggested that Dzeko is currently the best striker on City's books.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "There was no truth in that story at all.

"It was always going to be difficult for Edin, coming here in January, to take the Premier League by storm.

"It's a tough league and it was always going to be hard for him, but he has got the back-end of last season off his back now and has come back more determined this season. And he has shone.

"We could all see the qualities he has got in training last season, and he is showing them to everyone with the goals he is scoring now. We never doubted him for a minute.

"His persistence, his hunger and his desire, and his willingness to work for the team means we have to be realistic and say that at the moment he is our number one striker."
