Joleon Lescott believes new Everton signing Phil Jagielka will be a big hit at Goodison Park.

Lescott knows all about Jagielka's merits, having played alongside him at England Under-18 level and on opposite sides during their time in the Championship.

The defender told evertonTV: "Jags has got my old number and I wish him all the best.

"We played against each other for the past five years and been together at England Under 18s level.

"If he can do what he did at Sheffield United here, he will have no problem at Everton.

"He did exceptionally well in the Championship as well as in the Premiership last season for Sheffield United but unfortunately they got relegated. Fortunately for us we have got their best player."

Jagielka has settled straight into the Everton camp - but Lescott is not surprised.

He added: "Everyone makes it easy here when you are new and it was the same when I first came here."
