Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner is ready to sell up.
The Telegraph says Lerner is ready to sell Aston Villa in a £200 million deal this summer in a move that will raise serious doubts over the future of manager Paul Lambert.
Lerner, the Villa chairman, has given the clearest indication yet that he will listen to offers after releasing a statement on Sunday that only increased the uncertainty over the club's direction.
The American billionaire is open to the prospect of a sale, and while Villa are insisting there is no takeover imminent, it now seems inevitable there will be major changes this season which will leave Lambert's position vulnerable.
It is understood there have been tentative discussions with a consortium in the United States and Lerner's eight-year association with the West Midlanders appears certain to end this summer.
