Leonardo is delighted to have been handed the AC Milan coaching reigns.

"After a month I am even more convinced about my choice. I needed this period to understand many things," Leonardo explained. "We have built a group and I have been able to compare myself with lots of people, even outside of football.

"I was very close to Ancelotti during his period as Head Coach and it was a great emotion and a great energy to take his place.

"I have spoken a lot with Paolo Maldini and we have been very close." Leonardo revealed.

The Brazilian also expressed his delight at the news Massimo Ambrosini has signed a contract extension.

"I am happy for Massimo because the DNA of Albertini, Maldini, Costacurta and Baresi stays. He symbolises the Milan brand.

"It's my first experience as a trainer and he will be my first captain."
