Lennon hints that Celtic skipper Brown's season could be over

Celtic boss Neil Lennon suggests that captain Scott Brown may be rested for the remainder of the campaign.

The Hoops midfielder is struggling with a muscle injury in his stomach that could require an operation and if it does, Lennon says there may be no point playing him again in a bid to get him fully fit for next season.

"We'll have to see whether he requires surgery," he said.

"If he does then you are looking at four to six weeks.

"That would give him time to come back and play but we haven't had the full report back from the specialist.

"As regards the short term, he won't play.

"Could we shut him down for the rest of the season? Probably. But I would need to speak to him first.

"It might be a chance to give him a complete rest."
