Neil Lennon could not speak more highly of his Celtic players after they produced a stellar win over Barcelona on the night of the clubs 125th anniversary.

The Hoops managed to overcome arguably the world’s best football side to triumph 2-1 in the Champions League at Parkhead courtesy of goals from Victor Wanyama and Tony Watt and Lennon was beaming with pride after the brilliant result.

“This is one of the greatest nights in the club’s recent history,” said Lennon.

“It’s very poignant that it should happen on the club’s 125th anniversary – to play against Barcelona in such a prestigious game and to win, under huge difficulties with the squad decimated by injuries?

“The players are heroes to me. I can’t speak highly enough of their performances tonight. And they will go down in history books as having beaten probably the best team in the world.

"Everyone goes on about tactics but football is about players and they have covered themselves in glory tonight."
