Lennon feels Celtic deserved more from Atletico clash

Celtic should have at least got a point from last night's Europa League meeting with Atletico Madrid according to manager Neil Lennon.

The Glasgow giants were beaten 1-0 at Celtic Park which really dented their chances of progressing from Group I but the Hoops gaffer feels that the performance should have reflected a much more positive result.

Celtic will now have to defeat Udinese away from home on the final group stage match-day in order to qualify for the knockout stage and Lennon is aware of the enormity of the task.

"I thought we created some great chances and felt we matched Atletico for the majority of the game, if not bettered them. It's an excellent performance and I felt we deserved better from it," he said after the loss.

"It's a tall order for us to beat Udinese. They are an excellent side and we know we haven't won away from home in Europe in a long while (one win in 31 attempts).

"But we'll give it everything we've got.

"I'm delighted with the way we played tonight. We had a really good go against a very good side.

"Before the group started we would have been the underdog of the four teams - but I've seen a gradual progression from us.

"Atletico are a top quality side but with a bit of luck we could have won."
