Lennon cools talk of Celtic marquee signing

Celtic boss Neil Lennon won't splash out on a marquee signing this month - because the Hoops is already full of them, reports the Scottish Sun. The Hoops have landed big-name stars like Roy and Robbie Keane and Freddie Ljungberg in recent January transfer windows.

But boss Lenny said: "I would not do that. I don't think there's any need.

"We have to be prudent. That's worked for us over the past couple of years and we feel that's the right way to go.

"I think what these players here are doing now is creating their own names."

Lennon is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the Champions League clash with Juventus.

He added: "We've been working away in the background for a couple of months.

"It might be a case of getting out and looking at players before we make our final decision.

"It's a tough market, but I think we're an attractive proposition compared to what we would have been this time last year."

He confirmed a left-sided defender is a priority in the transfer window.

He said: "If it's available, if it comes up, then yeah.

"That sort of scenario has been good to us. We've worked it quite well in the past.

"So if there's an option there to take it and the player suits us, then we'll do that.

"Left-sided is what we want, either a winger or a left-back, because we definitely are short in that department, so we'll look to enhance that part of the squad if we can."
