Liverpool signing Lucas Leiva accepts he faces a long-term battle to establish himself in the club's crowded midfield.

The Brazil U20 captain said: "The list of midfielders shows that Liverpool has great quality. They are all great players. But I know I am ready to fight to show my quality and to win a place, despite who my competition is.

"There is a great expectation here to win the English championship. Though, clearly the Champions League is always an important objective."

The midfielder revealed he will go by 'Leiva' in England and added: "English football is completely different to Brazilian. But there are some similarities in styles with the south of Brazil, where it's all about power and scoring goals."
