Leighton James questions Michu Swansea deal

Former Swansea City winger Leighton James has questioned Michu's new contract.

James has dismissed this new contract as just a way for the club to protect the value of their asset.

He told talkSPORT: "Yes, it is [good news] but I think sometimes [contracts] are not worth the paper they're written on.

"I don't think anybody would disagree, when you look at it realistically, only the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea cannot be branded as selling clubs.

"It's not really that much of a shock when players leave your. When Robin Van Persie left Arsenal you virtually think everybody has a price, and I believe that they have.

"When you do well for a club like Swansea - as Michu has done fantastically well so far this season - the eyes of the press turn towards them and the headlines are there.

"Big clubs are not daft. They look at players and think, 'I quite fancy this guy' and the big clubs have got big money and it's always difficult for a slightly smaller club to turn excessive money down.

"It's comforting that it will take big money to get rid of him from here now. That's always a bonus for the club because they can reinvest that in another Michu."
