Leicester's Pearson: Premier League destiny is in our hands

Manager Nigel Pearson has stated that Leicester City have their Premier League status firmly in their own hands.

Despite their fine victory over West Ham United on Sunday, Leicester are still rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table - six points off safety - and many are of the belief that the Foxes need a lot of favours from other teams in order to be able to retain their top flight status.

However, manager Pearson does not share this view and has urged his side to concentrate on themselves rather than hope for results elsewhere to go in their favour.

Pearson told the Leicester Mercury: "Our destiny is in our own hands at the moment. When it becomes out of our own hands, that's when the pressures become slightly different. You are relying on external influences.

"Results elsewhere will affect other people's views and perspectives on our run-in and what our prospects are, but we have already talked about that.

"Whatever happens elsewhere, we have to remain very much in control of what we can do ourselves. We have to make sure that our performances and results are in order.

"With eight games left, what we know we have got to do is keep it in our own hands. If we do that, we have got a chance. But right now, it is very much in our hands and we want to keep it like that as much as possible."
