Leicester Vardy deal had FA backing

Leicester City's announcement that Jamie Vardy had committed to a new deal had the FA's backing.

The Leicester Mercury says the 29-year-old had intended to delay his decision until after England's participation in Euro 2016 but after his representatives agreed a new four year contract with City it was decided to announce his decision quickly.

Despite reports that the FA were unhappy with club issues being announced midway through the tournament, the Mercury understands the FA was consulted by City before the club made the announcement yesterday morning.

Had the FA or Roy Hodgson had an issue with the statement being made it would have been delayed.
