Leicester star Vardy cannot explain return to form against Liverpool

Jamie Vardy says he can't quite put his finger on why Leicester City quickly struck top form tonight.

The Foxes beat Liverpool 3-1 in their first game since Claudio Ranieri was sacked last week, marking their first Premier League victory of 2017.

Under caretaker boss Craig Shakespeare, the reigning champions moved out of the drop zone with a display reminiscent of last season's title exploits, but Vardy was unable to offer an clear explanation as to why.

"We've come in for a lot of unfair stick with things that have been in the press but you've seen that the lads wanted to react," Vardy, who cored a brace, told Sky Sports.

"The performance did that and we want to do it consistently. I couldn't put my finger on why we haven't been doing that regularly. We've been working hard and it's just not been happening.

"I wouldn't say it's a case of more effort. Shakes [Craig Shakespeare] asked me to play higher up. I did that and I managed to get in behind quite a lot."
