Leicester receive competition from Rangers for Finnish starlet Serge Atakayi

Scottish club Rangers are looking to hijack Leicester City's pursuit of Serge Atakayi.

The 17-year-old Finnish winger spent a week with the Premier League champions last season while also spending time on trial with Championship club Fulham.

However, Scottish Premiership returnees Rangers have offered him a trial after watching him in action for Ykonnen (second division) side FF Jaro recently and could make a serious move for his services with the current deal in Finland set to expire at the end of the year.

"He is a very good prospect and it will be good to see what he can do training with Rangers," said 'Gers academy coach Alan Boyd.

"I liked the way he played and he looks like he is learning about the game all the time.

"The next step is to see how he fits in at Rangers and how he trains with us.

"So yes, we have a serious interest in Serge."

Born in DR Congo, Finland youth international Atakayi joined Jakobstad outfit Jaro as an 11-year-old and became the youngest player to score in the Veikkausliiga (first division) when finding the back of the net at age 16 in May last year.
