Leicester players well aware of enormity of survival task - Schmeichel

Kasper Schmeichel is under no illusions regarding the difficult task which lies ahead for Leicester City.

The Foxes managed to give themselves a fighting chance of avoiding relegation with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over West Ham United on Saturday.

Despite the huge boost, however, Leicester are currently languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table - six points off safety - and goalkeeper Schmeichel has reiterated the fact that his side still have a lot of work to do in order to avoid the drop.

"It is a great emotion," said Schmeichel in the Leicester mercury. "We have had a difficult time but we have won, which is a positive.

"It is a good first step to narrow the gap and get closer to safety, but we are under no illusions it is a difficult task. But this was a good start.

"We are not deluded. We know exactly the situation we are in. The win has got us a little bit closer, now we've got eight more games, five at home, which gives us another opportunity to try to close the gap."
