Leicester make approach to ex-Chelsea boss Hiddink

Leicester City are hoping they can lure Guus Hiddink to the East Midlands.

The Guardian is reporting that the Foxes are 'hopeful of persuading' the Dutchman to take over for the remainder of the season.

Reigning Premier League champions Leicester sacked Claudio Ranieri last week and are now seeking an experienced manager to take charge and guide them to safety.

It is understood that Leicester have approached Hiddink over the weekend but it is unknown if the 70-year-old can be lured out of retirement after saying the Chelsea job would be his last.

Hiddink is reportedly reluctant to take the King Power Stadium role at such late notice meaning the Foxes could stick with current caretaker Craig Shakespeare or look elsewhere with Roberto Mancini being linked.

Hiddink steadied the ship at Chelsea last season after taking over from Jose Mourinho in December 2015 before leaving Stamford Bridge in May having led the team to a 10th-placed finish.
