Leicester could not keep Vardy from joining the ‘big boys’

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy should be given the opportunity to join a bigger club if it became a possibility.

That is the sentiment of former Foxes star Gary Lineker who is of the impression that a potential shift away from the King Power Stadium in the summer could bode well for the Premier League's leading scorer.

Vardy netted for the 10th league match in a row on the weekend and already has 13 goals in 13 matched for the table-topping Foxes so far this campaign and a future move, if he can hold this type of form of course, is on the horizon for the former non-league forward.

"A lot depends on Jamie Vardy and the attitude of the club themselves," Lineker, who played for Everton, Barcelona and Tottenham after leaving his hometown club, told BBC Radio Leicester.

"He's 28. Who wouldn't want a big move at that stage of your career? Not just a pay day but a chance to win trophies. Unless Leicester go on to win the league!

"It is a difficult one. I would hope they don't do a deal in mid-season because that's pretty disruptive for everyone and not an easy time to move.

"Most good deals are done in the summer and I would think the way he is going, the form he is in, the fact the Euros are coming in the summer, I think perhaps waiting a few months wouldn't do any harm.

"If he continues that form he'll attract the big clubs and who would deny someone, realistically, a move to one of the big boys? I did myself. It would be remiss of me to say he should stay till the end of his career."
