Leicester City coach Kevin Phillips has revealed the home dugout were surprised when Manchester United substituted Angel di Maria yesterday.
Phillips admits the early withdrawal of Di Maria, who had scored a stunning first-half goal, gave the Foxes an almighty boost towards their 5-3 win.
"We were all delighted when he [Van Gaal] took him off because he was causing us a few problems," admitted Phillips to talkSPORT.
"It was very strange. I was very surprised he took him off. That was a plus from our point of view."
