Leicester City coach Kevin Phillips was over the moon for Jamie Vardy on Thursday.
The 28-year old striker completed a meteoric rise when he was named in Roy Hodgson's England squad for next month's fixtures.
Vardy has made the step up from non-league Fleetwood Town to the Premier League with the Foxes and now finds himself on the verge of an international debut.
Of Vardy, Leicester's Phillips told Sky Sports: "He has to remember that two and a half years ago he was in non-league.
"His rise from there to being picked for England is fantastic. You have to give credit to the player for believing. Now he's got his opportunity I hope he goes on and takes it.
"He's a good character, a great lad to have in the dressing room and isn't shy of speaking up. I believe he'll go into the England dressing room exactly the same and not be fazed by it. That's a good trait to have.
"He's confident in his own ability and I'm sure he'll show everyone just what he can do."
England meet the Republic of Ireland in a friendly in Dublin on June 7 before heading to Ljubljana to take on Slovenia in Euro2016 qualifying on June 14.
