Leicester closing on deal for Sporting Gijon defender Luis Hernandez

Leicester City are closing on a deal for Sporting Gijon defender Luis Hernandez.

The Sun says Claudio Ranieri is poised to make the Spaniard Leicester City's his first signing of the summer.

The Foxes are hot favourites to land the 27-year-old on a free transfer after Hernandez confirmed he would be quitting the La Liga outfit last week.

Hernandez played a key role in keeping the newly-promoted side in La Liga, as he helped secure their top flight status on the final day of the Spanish season.

Ranieri wants experienced cover for veteran defensive duo Wes Morgan and Robert Huth as he gears up for the Champions' League and Hernandez fits the bill.

The former Real Madrid defender has the quality he is looking for to push his two defensive rocks for a starting place next season.
