Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric hopes to seal a deal for Sedan forward Joseph-Desire Job within "two or three days".
City are in talks with the former Middlesbrough player over a return to England after his French club were relegated from Ligue 1 last season.
Mandaric told the Leicester Mercury: "We are working on this. We have made an offer to him and we hope we can sort it out in the next two or three days.
"He is just the sort of striker we have been looking for. He is strong physically and he knows English football well from his time at Middlesbrough.
"He has experience of football in the Premiership which is where we are trying to lift this club back up to."
