Leicester assistant Appleton believes Shakespeare replacement will be British

Leicester City assistant manager Michael Appleton has stated that he wants the replacement manager for Craig Shakespeare at the King Power Stadium to be British.

City are currently on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Shakespeare earlier this week andAppleton wants to see a British tactician replace his former boss.

"I'll be an absolute hypocrite if I said any differently. The biggest reason I came here was Craig because I knew him and worked with him before," said Appleton.

"I walked away from a stable environment at Oxford, where we were progressing. But I felt like an opportunity like this might not come around again. So I took it with both hands.

"One of the things I say is that there is a lack of opportunities for British coaches at top end of the game. If it does go to a British coach then I wish him all the best and we see where we go from there."
