Leicester academy chief Rudkin: Riyad Mahrez an inspiration

Leicester City academy director Jon Rudkin is confident they can produce Premier League ready talent.

Rudkin said City players Riyad Mahrez and Jeffrey Schlupp were role models to the players currently coming through the academy.

"It is great for the football club to see Riyad go and perform in the World Cup," he told the Leicester Mercury. "I am also delighted for Liam and Jeff, who have come through the academy system to be part of a squad that achieved so much last season in attaining Premier League football.

"Alongside that, their international recognition has been the icing on the cake.

"Jeff is probably saddened at not being in the World Cup, but to have gone so close is another good achievement for such a young player. It is pleasing to see their progress and it demonstrates that, no matter what the age of the player, we have a football club and a manager who is certainly going to put the young players on the main stage.

"They wouldn't have got the international recognition without that stage.

"Those opportunities to play international football come through your performances for the club. They have achieved that through their work and progress within the first-team squad this season. It has a significant impact."
