Lehmann on verge of signing emergency Arsenal deal

Arsenal are close to re-signing veteran goalkeeper Jens Lehmann on an emergency deal.

The 41-year old has returned to the club this season to undertake a six-week coaching stint but now the North Londoners are desperate to have him back in red and white after all but one of the Gunners' four keepers are available.

Manuel Almunia is the only gloveman fit or eligible to play at the moment following the finger dislocation suffered by Wojciech Szczesny in last week's disappointing 3-1 Champions League loss to Barcelona.

Lukasz Fabianski is also injured whilst Vito Mannone is on loan at Hull City making Lehmann a serious contender to come into Arsene Wenger's squad for the remainder of the season.

The former Germany international reportedly told Bild that he was willing to help the club if they needed him.

"Arsenal currently have a goalkeeping crisis and I jumped at the chance to help them," he said.

It is believed that Lehmann will sign a short-term deal prior to this weekend's away clash with West Bromwich Albion.
