Legend Summerbee in dreamland over Man City progress

Mike Summerbee is still coming to terms with Manchester City qualifying for the Champions League and an FA Cup final appearance on Saturday and a chance to lift their first major trophy since 1976. Summerbee, who played in City's 1968 title-winning side and is now the club's ambassador, will be in the Royal Box alongside former City captain and manager Tony Book.

Summerbee told Press Association Sport: "I sometimes pinch myself some days when I come to the ground or go to a game, the way things are organised for us and the way the older players are looked after.

"The history of the club is important to (owner) Sheikh Mansour and our chairman (Khaldoon Al Mubarak). It is important that people know City's history when they come here.

"Tony Book is becoming more involved with me. He is a big part of the club. When young players arrive we go down to see them and let them know a bit more about Manchester City and its foundation stones.

"I have a lot of pride in the situation I am in. It is a great honour. Maybe in the past you might sneak in the back door but now I go right to the front."

Summerbee has nothing but praise for Italian boss Roberto Mancini.

He added: "We have been in the top four the whole season and I don't think that even in their wildest dreams any supporter would have envisaged that.

"It is difficult when you are in a city where Manchester United keep winning trophies. But our time is coming. Your turn comes again.

"It is a reflection on what the manager has done, which is remarkable, the way he is and the way his staff is."
