Leeds Utd appoint new manager but owner Cellino banned again

Leeds United have appointed Steve Evans as their new manager.

The 52-year-old left Rotherham United last month and has now taken the role at Elland Road where he replaces Uwe Rosler.

The Whites sacked Rosler after just 12 games in charge and have installed Evans as his replacement with news also filtering through that controversial owner Massimo Cellino has been disqualified for a second time under the League's Owners' and Directors' test, stemming from tax issues in his native Italy.

Despite the off-field woes the West Yorkshire club are experiencing, Evans was looking forward to getting started, as he looks to arrest a three-game losing streak and a substandard beginning to the season.

"I'm honoured and proud, but the supporters just want to see what happens on the pitch," Evans told the club's official website.

"The first thing we need to do is win some points and win some football matches.

"We've got two tough games in the next six days. I know it's seven months since we won at home and that is something we need to get off our back. But, more importantly, we've now got two away games and that is important in isolation. The first thing that matters is at Fulham.

"All I can ask the Leeds United supporters to do is to give me the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps I wouldn't be the chosen manager for many Leeds United fans - I had butterflies in my stomach driving into Thorp Arch this morning.

"I can understand why they may think that, but the only thing that matters to me is what happens on the grass.

"As I proved at Rotherham and as I proved at Crawley, if I win football matches then people will embrace me. It's always about winning football matches."
