Lorimer acknowledges a kindred spirit.
He told the Sunday Express: "I've been enjoying watching Bale score so many fantastic goals this season. It's great he is doing so well.
"Some of my pals have told me he reminds them of me - the way he plays and the goals he scores. I see the similarities as well.
"He likes to run at defenders, shoot from distance and excite the crowd. I like to think I could get goals that lit up a game.
"That kind of player is a dying breed. He's a throwback to my days, when there were lots of players like that.
"He can be out of the game and then produce something sensational. With his pace and strength, he is always a threat."
