Leeds coast against Scunthorpe

Leeds prepared for their FA Cup replay against Arsenal with an impressive 4-0 victory over Scunthorpe at Elland Road. Leeds have now just lost once in their last 15 games.

The Whites were three goals to the good by the break, all the goals coming in a 12 minute spell and boss Simon Grayson felt the score should have been more.

Grayson said: "When you go 3-0 up with early goals it gives you a platform to win the game, but we did the other side of the game really well.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game against Scunthorpe, who are fighting for their lives. We knew they'd work hard and close us down but we did that to them.

"We won possession of the ball and then showed some good quality and made the right options and got some very good goals and I'm delighted with individual performances, but predominantly with the team and how hard we worked.

"On another day we could have had six or seven goals, but it was great to have a victory and a clean sheet."

Grayson had told his players beforehand to forget about the Arsenal game and concentrate on the three points.

He added: "It's never been mentioned (the replay), the focus has been solely on this game since we finished last Saturday and that's what we have to do because you can't afford to take your eye off the ball.

"This was far more important than the Arsenal game last week and the Arsenal game on Wednesday night, but obviously now we've given ourselves an opportunity to concentrate on the Arsenal game with a good performance, a clinical performance and we've earned that opportunity to play Arsenal with that performance last week."

Scunthorpe boss Ian Baraclough has now lost 9 of his last 10 games and admits his team were well beaten and remain in the drop zone.

He said: "I thought there was quite a large gulf obviously, with my team perhaps a little bit low on confidence and Simon's team, who were very, very good I thought today.

"I thought they were a team that showed that they are competing with the best and have got every chance of going into the Premiership if they carry on in this vein of form.

"The first 20 minutes we made it difficult, neither team got into any pattern, that was the idea we had going into the game. One slip from a defender gave Sanchez Watt a sight of goal from 22 yards and he was very, very clinical.

"I thought the finishing was exemplary today and that comes from a team that are scoring decent goals regularly."
