Leeds chairman Bates expects Kilkenny departure

Just days after it was reported that Leeds United were set to offer Neil Kilkenny a new contract, it appears that the player may depart the club at the end of the season.

According to club chairman Ken Bates, the Australian midfielder 'will be moving on' as the Whites don't expect to change their financial position to give him more than he wants when his contract expires next month.

Leeds have a number of players who may be leaving Elland Road in the European Summer with Bates confirming that Kilkenny more than likely will not be a Leeds player next season.

"We'll be talking to their agents, but I don't think there'll be any movement on our side," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"Kilkenny will probably be moving on and we wish him luck."

Kilkenny joined the Yorkshire club from Birmingham City in 2008 after an initial loan deal and made over 100 league appearances in three seasons.
