Leeds boss Grayson tells Beckford: Everton not big enough

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson says Jermaine Beckford can think bigger than Everton if he stars against FA Cup opponents Tottenham.

Beckford has been linked with a pre-contract deal with Everton as he comes off contract in June.

But Grayson reckons another star performance against one of the top-flight big guns could send his profile through the roof and earn him a move to somewhere more glamorous than Goodison Park.

Grayson said: "It's difficult for us to compete with Premier League clubs.

"If we get promoted at the end of the season there's every chance we might have another go at making him a new offer.

"But while Jermaine's here we expect him to be focused and to keep doing what he's been doing.

"We just want to get the best out of him between now and the end of the season.

"I don't know about him joining Everton. Pre-contracts don't necessarily mean anything.

"But if he can score 20 more goals and help us beat Tottenham, then who knows which clubs might want to come in and sign him. There might be bigger ones than Everton wanting him."
