Sergio Aguero says Manchester City need to win at least one trophy a season to be considered successful.
Last season's Premier League champions missed out on the domestic title this time with neighbours Manchester United reigning supreme in 2012/13 but City can still take out the FA Cup next month when they contest the final with Wigan Athletic at Wembley.
Aguero says that could be enough this campaign to keep the critics at bay.
"It's always important to win something," he told Match of the Day magazine.
"Obviously we're some way off in the Premier League but it's important that we at least win something.
"To win a trophy once a year - that's what we try to do.
"We have a very good team here and obviously we could have done better - we know that. But if we continue to play the way we are we can keep going forward in the Premier League."
