Le Tissier confident Southampton will hang onto van Dijk

Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier is confident that star defender Virgil van Dijk won't be leaving the club in January.

The Dutchman has emerged as one of the best centre-backs in the league following his move to the Saints from Celtic in 2015, and once again, produced an impressive performance against Liverpool in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg on Wednesday.

Le Tissier told Sky Sports that he doesn't see the 25-year-old, who has been linked with Manchester City, Manchester United, the Reds and Everton, leaving the south coast club in January: "I think so, I think when you look back at all the players we have sold, I can't remember one of them going in January."

The Saints legend also felt van Dijk led a determined defence in the much-deserved victory over the Reds.

"I thought they organised themselves really well," he added.

"I watched the last round up at the Emirates (against Arsenal) and they did the same thing there, a terrific defensive performance."
