Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier is backing John Williams to succeed Nico Cortese.
The former Blackburn Rovers chairman is being linked with a move to Saints.
"There was a massive overreaction last week. The owner [Katharina Liebherr] has moved quickly to make sure that everybody knows the best players are not for sale. We aren't going to be pushed about in the transfer market, which is great to hear," Le Tissier told talkSPORT.
"One of the names being mentioned to take over from Cortese is John Williams, who has got a fantastic reputation in the game.
"I spoke to a few people in Blackburn and not one person had a bad word to say about him. If we could get him, I think that would be a fantastic appointment."
