Former Southampton fullback Graeme Le Saux feels their top four chances are over.
Le Saux has been impressed with their start to the season but feels that targeting the top four is a step too far for Ronald Koeman's side - but top six is achievable.
He told the Daily Express: "I don't think they'll be able to sustain it through the whole season, they've got a tough Christmas, and it does get to a point where you need experience in your squad to get you through periods of the season.
"While they've got some fantastic young players, and that wonderful production line I just don't think they'll be able to sustain it and finish in the top four, but I certainly think top six is realistic for them.
"I hope they do well in the capital one cup as well because that would be a great reward for them this season," he said.
