Lazio's hopes of landing River Plate winger Augusto Fernandez have stalled.

"There are no problems for his EU passport application, but we are waiting for the response from the authorities," explained agent Pablo Sabbag on Datasport.

"We need to sit tight and await news. Fernandez has received many proposals from European clubs, but his mind is focused only on Lazio.

"However, it would be impossible to join them if he remained a non-EU player."
