Lazio and Sevilla are battling for West Bromwich Albion striker Shane Long.

The Mirror says the Baggies are bidding to head off that interest after opening contract talks with Long, with sporting and technical director Richard Garlick recently travelling to Ireland to speak to one of the 26-year-old's advisers.

Long, scorer of nine goals for the club so far this season, has just over a year - plus a 12-month option - left on his current deal.
