Lazio are pressing Manchester City for a deal over Roque Santa Cruz.
The Rome club are turning to Santa Cruz after they failed to land Hugo Almeida, from Werder Bremen.
Lazio have already contacted Santa Cruz's agent and hope to speak to City executives this week to discuss a deal.
The Italians want an initial loan deal with an option to make it permanent.
