Lazio are launching a bid for Middlesbrough midfielder Maarten de Roon.

Despite Boro's relegation, the 26-year-old produced some impressive displays in his debut Premier League campaign.

And that has led Serie A side Lazio to prepare a £9million move for the star, says Gazzetta dello Sport.

Boro, who appointed Garry Monk as their new manager on Friday, splashed out £12m for the midfielder twelve months ago.

They want a fee of around £11m for De Roon, but Lazio are reportedly confident of landing him for a cut-price figure.
