Chelsea have made Lazio defender Stefan De Vrij a late transfer target, according to reports from Sport Italia.

With John Terry and Gary Cahill in their 30's, Chelsea are currently in the market to sign a new defender this summer but they have faced frustration after having bids for the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly and Alessio Romagnoli rejected.

With just a few days remaining before the end of the transfer window, Chelsea are getting a bit desperate in their hopes of landing the services of a new defender and now according to reports from Italy, claims have been made that the Blues are currently plotting a move for Lazio's Dutch international De Vrij.

It is understood that a formal offer is not yet forthcoming but there is a fair amount of interest in the 24-year-old.
