Liverpool have suffered another transfer blow as Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij is set to sign a new deal with the Serie A club.

The Merseyside club moved their focus towards de Vrij after they had given up in their pursuit of Southampton centre-back Virgin van Dijk.

The latest report from Sky Italia claims that Lazio have offered the 25-year-old a substantial pay-rise and he is set to sign a new long-term deal soon.

The Netherlands international joined the Rome-based club from Feyenoord in 2014.
