Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has earmarked two quality midfield signings ahead of the summer market.

The Independent says United have made Lazio's Sergej Milinković-Savić and Shakhtar Donetsk's Fred their primary midfield targets for the summer, with Jose Mourinho intent on specifically enhancing that area of his side.

The Portuguese feels this one of the main remaining issues in his team, because the lack of a player like a prime Michael Carrick means they aren't quite fast enough in the middle.

United are turning to a player who had seemed certain for Manchester City in January in Fred, only for injuries to cause them to change their plans. Mourinho has ensured his club have stayed on top of the situation, and more and more people close to both Old Trafford and Lazio feel the 23-year-old Milinkovic-Savic will go to United this summer.
