Lazio have called off the signing of Argentine goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo.

Lazio had agreed a deal with the 23-year-old's club River Plate amounting to around £5m, but the Aquile were thwarted by complications in Carrizo's attempt to procure an Italian passport.

"Lazio and River Plate would like to communicate that due to bureaucratic reasons, the agreement of July 18 is now no longer valid and Carrizo will remain property of River Plate until Lazio can sign him," a statement read.
