Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has defended their failure to get a deal done for Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka.
Lawrenson wrote in the Sunday Mirror: "Yevhen Konoplyanka could still turn out to be a Premier League star.
"He could come over here in the summer and rip it up next season. That doesn't mean, however, that Liverpool fans should be angry with the powers that be at Anfield because they didn't conclude a deal for him on Transfer Deadline Day.
"The bottom line is that their negotiating team went over to the Ukraine and agreed a fee for the player. A very good fee when you consider that he is out of contract in 18 months.
"The owner of Dnipro, however, decided he still didn't want to sell. When that happens, what are the guys supposed to do? Offer more money?"
