Swansea City boss Michael Laudrup hopes fans retain their realism.

Swansea's stated ambition in the past two summers has been to "avoid relegation", but Laudrup admitted the bar has been raised.

He said: "It is what happens in football. I have already told the players, board, the chairman that you cannot come back after the vacation, after winning a trophy, and say this year only beating relegation is important. If you say only 17th is important, you cannot do that. You can but people won't listen to you.

"When people get a taste of success they like it. They don't want to go back. Of course a club like Swansea cannot expect to win a trophy every two, four, six years.

"I read the other day about Arsenal. They haven't won a trophy in eight years. David Moyes at Everton - top 10 for how long and they haven't won a trophy.

"It' s a problem, not just in football but life too, that when you have success, one of the most difficult things is getting expectations back to a reasonable level.

"It is a difficult job for me, the players and the club. We have to find a level that is reasonable and realistic."
