Laser beams irk Japan but Jordan suggest - 'They are just trying to cover up their loss'

The Japan national team will complain to FIFA after some of their players were targeted with laser beams by Jordan fans in Amman on Tuesday.

The Jordanians upset the Blue Samurai 2-1 in World Cup qualifying but during the match, green laser lights appeared on the faces of goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima and Yasuhito Endo, who missed a second-half penalty.

Japan Football Association president Kuniya Daini confirmed he would complain to football's world governing body regarding the incidents.

"We will make a complaint," Kuniya told Kyodo News after the match.

But vice-president of the Jordan Football Association, Salah Sabra, felt that Japan had nothing to protest.

"Personally, I am surprised at these accusations. We did not hear or notice anything about laser," said Sabra.

"The Japanese players themselves did not complain during or after the match yesterday.

"Security measures were tough before and during the match. The police thoroughly frisked everyone.

"We highly respect our Japanese friends but, personally, I think it is a weak attempt to cover up their loss."
