Larsson: Sunderland not safe after derby triumph over Newcastle

Sebastian Larsson has warned his Sunderland side that they are still not safe despite the fine victory over Newcastle United on the weekend.

Sunderland lifted themselves up to 15th place on the Premier League table following the 1-0 win over the Magpies in the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday and the Black Cats fans have renewed confidence that their side can avoid relegation.

However, Swedish midfielder Larsson has urged Sunderland not to get carried away and has stated that there is still a lot of work to be done if the Wearside outfit are to avoid the drop.

Larsson said: "It's three points, it's given us a boost and it's always a fantastic feeling, but we're not safe by any means.

"We're right in the relegation mix and the sooner you realise that, the better it is. We're not going to get ahead of ourselves in terms of thinking we've done it because it can change very quickly.

"It's going to give us a boost and we needed the three points. But it's about using that now and making sure we take it on in the next few games. It's going to chop and change from now until the end of the season. I just hope we can put a couple of results together to pull ourselves away. That's the aim.

"We know it's not that easy because we've dragged ourselves back into it many times this season and before. We're absolutely delighted with the three points and another derby win but we're still in trouble, so let's realise that."
