Laporta wanted Laudrup ahead of Guardiola as Barcelona coach

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta wanted to name Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup as new coach ahead of Pep Guardiola in 2008.

The revelation comes in a new book about Laudrup, 'A Gentleman in New Clothes', which is being covered in Ekstra Bladet.

Laudrup was in charge of Getafe at the time and their president Angel Torres confirms: "Txiki (Begiristain) told me that Laudrup was one of the managers on the shortlist for the following season."

The Dane's appointment also had the support Johan Cruyff, who was Laporta's advisor.
