Joan Laporta says it's "only fair" that Barcelona should try to sign Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.

The former Barca president insists it's right that the club is chasing the midfielder.

"We did not want to sign Cesc. I chose to sign David Villa at that time. We thought (Cesc) was a great player, and I would like him to come to Barca in the conditions under which came Gerard Piqué, who left Manchester United making it clear that he wanted only to return to Barca, they are players that have been formed here," said Laporta.

"The English come here 'fishing'. They came here to fish for Pique and for Cesc. And it is only fair that we now want to recover these players."
