Frank Lampard has no problem with Chelsea turning to youthful signings.
Lampard, 33, welcomes the injection of youth provided by the recent signings of teenagers Romelu Lukaku and Oriol Romeu and 23-year-old Juan Mata.
But he is clearly in no mood to step aside after his 82nd-minute penalty eased Chelsea towards another far from convincing win.
The England midfielder said: "Age is something people throw at you when you have a bad result.
"We are introducing youth with the signings we've made and the manager won't be scared to throw them in for important games.
"But you can't buy the experience of some of the players we have here and the real answers will be seen at the end of the season.
"We don't need new signings to keep us on our toes. You need people driving themselves on, whether there are other players knocking on the door or not. That's the minimum required at a club like Chelsea. If you don't have that you won't win anything.
"But it's certainly good for the manager to have so many options. Then if players don't perform over his period of time, it's his prerogative to make changes.
"That's what you see with all successful teams. Look at Barcelona the other night and the quality of players they were bringing on from the bench. That's what you need to have in the modern game."
