Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been confirmed as England captain for Friday's friendly against Chile at Wembley. Before kick-off Lampard will be awarded a golden cap to commemorate his 100th appearance for England.
The FA confirmed on its official Twitter account that Lampard would skipper the side against Chile.
The 35 year old won his 100th cap against Ukraine in September, but England manager Roy Hodgson has waited until this week to mark the achievement by handing Lampard the captaincy, and his golden cap.
"It's a pleasure to say that Frank will lead the team out tomorrow night," said Hodgson.
"He'll receive his 100th cap from his father and Sir Geoff Hurst and that will be a great occasion."
"It's going to be very special," Lampard said. "One hundred caps has been a long time coming. I've seen golden caps rightly given to Steven (Gerrard) and Ashley (Cole) and I'm going to be very, very proud.
"The Sir Geoff idea came from the FA; I've had links with him all my life - my dad knows him, he's an England hero. I requested that my dad be involved because there haven't been many international fathers and sons. I've had to press him a bit to get out there but I think he'll be a very proud dad when he does."
